It's a big day for #PuertoMorelos as we celebrate 9 years as an independent municipality. It's also King's Day, which is all about gifts and big cakes! This photo of the square is from this morning. Speeches (so many speeches) were about to begin and the surprisingly good Quintana Roo Police Band delighted the early crowd with a pretty on-the-nose performance of "Smooth Operator". The road behind the square is closed tonight as the town begins prep for their annual meeting and celebration of the anniversary of the 9th anniversary of Puerto Morelos becoming an independent municipality. New Year's Day morning is one of my favourite time
New Year's Day morning is one of my favourite times of the year to go for a ride. It's very quiet. Very few cars on the road and most places are shut after the big party the night before. There are a some people out and about. A mix of runners & walkers getting an early start on their freshly-minted resolutions...and a bunch of hard-chargers who are still celebrating the night before with music and drink.
